Poppy Cups on Vine Tray by Peggy Crago / o happy clay!

This is a new set that I am excited about.  It is similar to cup sets I've done before in the poppy and pansy patterns that are still on my site.  I envisioned it as each cup being a flower rather than decorated with flowers.  Have you seen the old black and white cartoons or fairytale book illustrations where a pea pod could be a canoe, a blossom a drinking vessel?  Another inspiration is the Art Nouveau period, with its ornate and romantic interpretation of nature - and vines on everything.

With these cups, I first threw on the wheel a mini-cup, then cut it to resemble the receptacle of the flower that attaches to the stem.  I then inserted a regular-sized thrown cup that was trimmed and shaped into a quatrefoil and smoothed the two together, attached a vine handle, etc.

Each cup holds 14-16 oz. and the tray is 12" square with a flat unglazed bottom. Cost for the set is $300 and  can be ordered by contacting me at peggycrago@comcast.net.

Poppy Tumbler Set on Vine Tray by Peggy Crago / o happy clay!

This set of tumblers has slip-trailing on two sides to create texture in a vine motif.  Each holds about 16 oz. and is 8" tall.  Cost for the set is $300.  I have had several requests for individual tumblers, so I plan to make those.  They will be $49 each.  To order, contact me at peggycrago@comcast.net.

    o happy clay!

I spent many hours as a child poring over fairy tales books and copying the illustrations.  And having grown up in a large family with no room for clutter, I came to appreciate things that were both functional and beautiful. My studio is in the middle of my organic garden.  Between gardening and working with clay, it seems like my hands are never clean!

Before ceramics, I spent twenty-five years in fine art and graphic art, including ten years as a sign painter. My work has won several awards, is in galleries across the country, and has been exhibited in national shows.
