This Last Firing

Opening up the kiln after a firing almost always feels like Christmas morning.  The last firing had a greater than usual amount of new work , and I felt like I was a little kid - I could hardly wait to see how everything turned out.

Mostly, everything was perfect, just one piece for an order that needed to be re-done.  That is pretty good for a majolica firing.  It's a touchy process and I've gotten used to (sort of) disappointment following a lot of hard work.

There was so much new work that it would overwhelm to put it all in one newsletter or FB post; so I added a new category on my website: New Work.   This is the link: http://www.pcragopottery.com/currentwork.html.  Once there, click on New Work in the left hand column.

Shown above is the new way I'm doing the poppy butter dish.  It fits one standard stick of butter, and the tray is also decorated with poppies.  I'm selling it for $125.

There are also quiche dishes in different vegetable patterns (three of them below), pie plates (three below), teapots, and jars/boxes.
Top Row: Quiche dishes: lemon, tomato, artichoke    $65
Bottom Row: Pie plates: strawberry, lemon, blueberry   $65

    o happy clay!

I spent many hours as a child poring over fairy tales books and copying the illustrations.  And having grown up in a large family with no room for clutter, I came to appreciate things that were both functional and beautiful. My studio is in the middle of my organic garden.  Between gardening and working with clay, it seems like my hands are never clean!

Before ceramics, I spent twenty-five years in fine art and graphic art, including ten years as a sign painter. My work has won several awards, is in galleries across the country, and has been exhibited in national shows.
